Andrew vs. the minivan

While meandering home at a downhill speed of 22 mph, Andrew and a minivan collided in a not-so-good way last night. He was headed south on sierra madre while the minivan was going north and had just turned into an outlet to turn left. The minivan decided to make it's turn right as Andrew was about the cross the street it wanted to enter. Andrew locked up his brakes and tried to dodge the van but decided instead that maybe a little hug with the van wouldn't be such a bad idea. The hug consisted of Andrew taking off their side mirror and rolling over their hood then bouncing on the ground (He thinks).

He then thought it would be best to go sprawl out on a grassy median. Tune in next week when Andrew attempts to take on a train.

BTW-He's fine. We called Kip right after to check what deadly signs to look for and then went to the ER just to be sure he wasn't going to die in his sleep.

Thank goodness it wasn't worse.
I vote no on the train.
Nobody wants to believe me, but bikes and cars just don't belong on the same streets, given the vast difference in their operating characteristics.
How many style points did you get for the dive?

I wasn't there but I'd give him at least 5000 pts because he was able to walk away from it.

I agree, cars and bikes belong together on the street, which is why people should stop driving.

Any pictures of the aftermath? Hope the van got the worst of it.

That sounds traumatic, except the laying on the grass part, which sounds kinda nice. Sorry Andrew! I hope you can recover from the aftershocks enough to continue riding, you've been looking very svelte in your photos lately!

As I think I've said a time or two to Andrew, since people in cars are often unsafe when they shouldn't be perhaps a bikes-only choice for lots of exercise is available. But I don't know where...

Oh man, at first I thought you meant you were driving your car and got ejected out the window. Well, the fact you were on a bike is even worse. John had many a collision himself while biking - you can now attest that once you get on a bike you immediately become invisible. Move to SLC - the mayor here appointed a bike Czar to begin taking back the streets. His whole idea is to eventually make driving more slow than walking or biking.

Yikes! Sounds like rollover collisions are actually less painful when surrounded by a Scion?
